What is a Mastermind Group?
I have been running mastermind groups, and been a member
of mastermind groups, since 1984. They have profoundly shaped my life
and my business, and I'm successful because of my participation in them.
There is synergy of energy, commitment and excitement
that participants bring to a mastermind group. A mastermind group offers a combination of masterminding, peer
brainstorming and support in a group setting.
The beauty of mastermind groups is that participants raise the bar by challenging each other to
create and implement goals, brainstorm ideas, and support each other with
total honesty, respect and compassion. Mastermind group members act as
catalysts for growth, devil’s advocates and supportive colleagues. This is
the essence and value of mastermind groups.
What a Mastermind Group is NOT
-
A mastermind group is not a class. While groups can
vote to bring in guest speakers occasionally, the main focus
of a mastermind group is sharing among the group members.
-
A mastermind group is not group coaching. Mastermind
groups are about the MEMBERS sharing with each other, not
about the facilitator leading or coaching individuals in the
group.
-
A mastermind group is not a networking and referral
group. While you may share leads and resources with each
other, the main focus of a mastermind group is brainstorming
and support.

Napoleon Hill's Definition
The concept of the "mastermind alliance" was formally
introduced by Napoleon Hill in his timeless classic,
"Think And Grow Rich." He wrote about the mastermind group principle as:
"The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work
toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony."
He continues ...
"No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible
intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind."
What You'll Get From Belonging to a Mastermind Group
In a mastermind group, the agenda belongs to the group
and each person's participation and commitment is key. Your peers give you feedback, help
you brainstorm new possibilities, and set up accountability structures that
keep you focused and on track. You create a community of supportive
colleagues who brainstorm together to move the individuals and the group to new heights.
You'll gain tremendous insights which improve your
business and personal life. Your mastermind group is like having a objective board
of directors, a success team, and a peer advisory group,
all rolled into one.
How Mastermind Groups Works
-
Some groups meet in person
at a specific location. Others meet via teleconference.
-
Groups are often limited
to a small number of members. This allows members to bond and work deeply on their goals
and challenges in a small group environment.
-
Members meet on a specific
schedule. See the Mastermind Group
Finder to find a schedule that fits your needs.
-
Some groups will ask you to sign a confidentiality (non-disclosure) agreement to protect the privacy of each
member of the group.
-
Some groups also include a
members-only message board, so that you can continue your discussions between
meetings.
